Here are Some Monthly HVAC Maintenance Tips to Prevent Expensive Repairs

Your HVAC system is a vital part of the home, keeping the environment under your control and comfortable no matter how hot the summer is, or how howling cold the winter has become.

But, as with any piece of equipment, it doesn’t run perfectly forever. An HVAC system, like a car or other complex piece of hardware, eventually takes on some wear and tear through continued usage.

Unlike a car, which stops operations when you do, your HVAC system works all year long, either heating or cooling your home. If you want to ensure it keeps working smoothly, there are a few things you can do to help with maintenance.

Be Diligent About Filter Replacement

The filter of your furnace and/or A/C is designed to protect both you and your HVAC.

It catches contaminant particles in the air, such as pollen, or even detritus from pets, and ensures that it doesn’t circulate throughout the rest of the home via your HVAC system.

This is why it’s important to ensure that you have a fresh filter placed in your HVAC system with every new season.

In other words, every three months, you should be replacing that filter.

But if you live in a home with smokers, pets, or other heavy sources of particles, you may want to conduct this replacement on an even more frequent basis.

Keep Outdoor Fixtures Clear

Your HVAC system has vents and other apparatus that take in air or purge air from your home to keep the residence at the desired temperature.

Anything that interferes with this type of ventilation or air exchange ultimately affects the performance of your HVAC.

Because of this, it’s a good idea to periodically look at the ventilation or condenser of your HVAC system and make sure that everything is unobstructed.

What might look like just a harmless pile of leaves sitting in front of a vent may be blocking vital air intake.

And that means your HVAC system works harder than it needs to, meaning you’re paying more than you need to with every month that you don’t clear the blockage.

Annually Tune Up Your HVAC

Just like with a car, an HVAC system that runs continuously throughout the year deserves a bit of maintenance to keep things going smoothly.

Call in an expert for an annual inspection and tune up to see how well your equipment is doing, and whether anything needs to be addressed.

When you do this, smaller problems can quickly be addressed, rather than snowballing over time into massive, expensive problems that will take a lot of time and money solve.

Being proactive with small expenses now helps prevent big financial headaches in the future.
